Diversity

From 2007-15, I served as the first diversity director at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. My main job was to help increase and sustain student diversity at the college.

I worked at securing grants for recruitment projects from various sources, raising more than $100,000 from organizations including CNN, the Georgia Press Association, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. I also served on the college’s diversity committee and represent Grady at University of Georgia diversity-related committees.

I am a certified diversity trainer for the National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) and helped develop the University of Georgia’s anti-bias/discrimination plan. In 2010, my office was recognized with the University of Georgia’s “Embracing Diversity” award. During my tenure as diversity director at Grady, student diversity tripled at the college.
